Serving the Burton Joyce Community

Burton Joyce Parish Council

Burton Joyce Bowls Club

Burton Joyce Bowls Club started in 1996, instigated by John Harris and Jean Palmer with John Harris as Chairman, Ron Danforth as Treasurer and Norman Kirton as Secretary. The pavilion and green were built with lottery money and John Harris was also involved in this.

After the green was opened membership reached about 120 but a lot of the members were people in the village who were not always interested in bowling but wanted to show support for the club in a positive way.  Thanks go to them and also to some members of Lowdham Bowls club who also joined Burton Joyce to help while it got started.

Not all our members wish to do bowling at a high level but there are ample opportunities to play as we also have friendlies and club events in which newcomers, who don’t wish to bowl in a competition, can bowl in a friendly atmosphere and established bowlers play just for fun. With the help of lottery money we are fully equipped for disabled bowlers.

The summer season runs from the end of April to the middle of September when we bowl in 4 local leagues. Between matches and club events there is no limit to the time season ticket holders can use the green. If you have no shoes or bowls, the club has both which can be borrowed free of charge.

After reading a little of our club and you feel this is something you could enjoy then please get in touch.  You can ring for information and speak to Susan 0115 8447167 or Sid 0115 9312126 .

Early July 2009 saw  a resounding win by our Burton Joyce Bowls Club against Vernon Park. In a good natured game on a fantastic summer evening, our seniors continued to hold up the good name of Burton Joyce with a resounding win. Well done to Sid and the team
